Kolinsky Sable® is the finest quality hair for watercolour and ink as it is very resilient with a good belly, providing a reservoir for colour with an uninterrupted flow. Kolinsky hairs come to a needle sharp tip, with excellent memory, allowing the brush to snap back to it's original shape after each stroke.

H.J. Pure Red Sable brushes are an equal mixture of 50% male and 50% female hair from a more southernly weasel. This brush will hold a lot of liquid and is springy and soft, with an sharp point. An excellent brush at a lower cost than Kolinsky sable.

Camel brushes are an inexpensive alternative to other natural hairs. 'Camel' brushes are soft-haired brushes made of pony, ox, goat or any combination of these hairs.

Sabelline synthetic hairs are designed to resemble red sable. A good brush with good liquid retention, a springy and soft hair similar to the natural sable brushes at a fraction of the cost.

Squirrel hairs are highly absorbent, with an excellent point for fine details. The lack of spring is made up for in the absorbance ability and soft fibres making these hairs suitable for wash brushes and mops.

Nylon bristles are a man-made fibre extruded to perform like natural bristle. Nylon is durable and works very well with acrylics. The hairs are shaped and flagged to resemble a natural hog bristle.
